Reading a Maid Biodata: 8 Things Employers Should Check

Published 17 June 2026

A biodata is more than a photo and name. It is the starting point for assessing whether a domestic helper can work safely and effectively in your home. Here are eight areas experienced employers review before arranging an interview.

1. Caregiving experience that matches your home

Infant care, elderly care, and general housekeeping require different skills. Look for employment history that mirrors your needs — not just a tick on a skills list.

2. Singapore vs overseas experience

Singapore experience can mean familiarity with HDB living, food markets, and local routines. Overseas experience can still be excellent — read what duties were actually performed.

3. Language and communication

English, Mandarin, or other languages may matter for instructions, school communication, or elderly parents. Note both spoken ability and willingness to learn household-specific terms.

4. Cooking and dietary fit

If your family needs halal food, vegetarian meals, or specific cuisines, check cooking sections carefully and confirm during interview.

5. Off days and flexibility

MDWs are entitled to rest days under employment standards. Discuss expected off days early; do not assume unlimited availability.

6. Medical and physical ability

Employers should not discriminate unfairly, but you may discuss whether the role requires heavy lifting, long distances, or night feeds — and whether the candidate is comfortable.

7. Reason for transfer or new deployment

Agencies can clarify employment gaps or transfer reasons that are not fully visible online.

8. Agency support

Check which licensed agency represents the helper. Review their profile on Maidfinder maid agencies and ask about replacement policy and post-placement support.

Open any biodata from search results, compare details side by side, and shortlist only those worth a conversation.
