Domestic Helper Rest Days in Singapore: What Employers Should Know

Published 17 June 2026

Rest days are a recurring topic between employers and helpers. MOM requires employers to provide rest days — the default is one rest day per week unless an alternative arrangement is agreed in writing.

Plan rest days early

Discuss which day works for your household and whether the helper prefers staying in or going out. Predictable rest days reduce conflict later.

Search by preference

On Maidfinder you can filter by rest-day preference when browsing maid listings. Save profiles to your shortlist and compare before enquiring.

Compensation for working on rest day

If a helper agrees to work on rest day, compensation rules apply. Confirm current MOM guidance before agreeing to any arrangement.

General information only — verify latest rules on mom.gov.sg.
